The Mundelein High School Music Department will host its annual Mundelein Invitational Saturday, March 11 from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. For the $5 admission, ticket holders have the opportunity to hear up to 21 jazz groups and also special guest artist, Mark Colby.

In many cases, jazz festivals are known as either good competitive festivals or good clinic festivals based on the adjudication systems used. “The Mundelein Invitational Jazz Festival will offer both aspects in equal measure and equal quality in order to better benefit the ensemble’s needs,” said Andy Sturgeon who directs the MHS instrumental music program along with Jerald Shelato.

Adjudicators who will spend the entire day providing scores and comments for the ensemble groups include Alex Beltran, tenor saxophone; Tim Coffman, trombone; Mark Colby, saxophone; Euan Edmonds, trombone; Bob Lark, trumpet; and Chris Madsen, tenor saxophone.

Colby will be the featured guest performer from 12:40 to 1:40 p.m.
