Dear Parents and Guardians,

We wanted you to be vigilant following two recent kidnapping attempts reported by Grayslake and Round Lake police departments.

The incidents were reported on Tuesday and Friday last week. In one incident, police reported an attempted kidnapping attempt by two male subjects driving a gray or silver minivan. While nothing has been reported in Mundelein, we still ask that students walking to school or waiting for school buses be mindful of their surroundings and alert.

Students should walk with friends, siblings or parents, avoid interaction with strangers, and stay on well-lit and populated pathways. Please report any suspicious activity to authorities. Parents and guardians should discuss safety measures with your children.

MHS COVID Policies

Our top priority is the health and safety of our students, staff and families. The following guidelines, created with recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Lake County Health Department, will be in place for Mundelein High School.

In-Person Learning:

  • Buses will go back to full capacity without seating charts.
  • Lunch will go back to pre-pandemic spacing.
  • Assemblies are allowed.
  • Locker rooms will be made available to students.
  • Visitors are allowed back in the buildings/classrooms.
     

Contact Tracing / Quarantine:

Students who test positive for COVID will be required to quarantine for five days. Those with COVID-related symptoms are asked to stay home from school until testing negative or being symptom-free for at least 24 hours. There will be no official contact tracing. However, there are distinct situations which should be monitored, tracked and responded to: 

When sports teams, bands and clubs meeting more than once a week have three positive cases in a five-day period, parents and guardians of those students will be notified and optional testing will be offered. An adaptive pause could be considered.

Mitigation Measures:

  • Masks will remain optional among both students and staff.
  • For those returning from quarantine, masks are recommended for days 6-10 after a positive test.
  • Nurses offices will maintain two spaces - one for COVID-19, the other for non-COVID-19 cases.
  • Masks must be worn by everyone entering a nurse’s office.
  • The D120 Maintenance Department will follow the same protocols as implemented in the spring of 2022. This includes disinfecting the school and ensuring ventilations systems provide an adequate amount of outside air.

COVID Testing

Testing:

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 4, the hours for our free Covid testing/screening will change. It will be held from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Previously, the testing was available until 5 p.m.

Walk-in testing is available for anyone interested. No registration or reservation is needed. The test is a nasal swab antigen test and results will be provided within 10 minutes. Students under 18 should come with a parent or guardian.

The testing takes place at the District Annex (located next to Mundelein High School) at 1500 W. Hawley St. for all students. If you have questions please email Debbie Tipperreiter, Lead Health Aide, Districts 75 and 120.

Free and Reduced Meal
program changes

The federal government has ended its program that made school meals free to all students regardless of their family’s income during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Starting with the 2022-23 school year, free and reduced meals will only be available to students based on financial need. Families will need to fill out an application to be eligible for the program. Families who don’t apply or do not qualify will be charged for school lunches starting at the beginning of the school year. 

To apply for the free and reduced meals in-person, please go to our website or visit us at the East District Office, 470 N. Lake Street, Mundelein. If you have already received a Direct Certification letter you do not need to apply.
