Mundelein High School junior, Ilya Vynnyk, recently traveled to Iowa to take part in the Mikva Challenge, created by Ab Mikva, a high ranking government official who served in all three branches of government. Mikva was an American politician, federal judge, lawyer and law professor.

Along with his wife, Mikva created an organization to empower young adults towards politics that often don’t get the chance to do so.

“High schoolers from all over the country came to Iowa this past weekend to participate in and see first-hand democracy in action,” Vynnyk explained.

Vynnyk was the only student from Mundelein who joined 215 other students in DesMoines. Tom Kuhn is his AP Government teacher at MHS.
