BSU TO HOST RACE AGAINST VIOLENCE FUNDRAISER Mundelein High School’s Black Student Union (BSU) in support of Strides for Peace will host a 5K run/walk on Sunday, October 18 from 9 a.m. to noon. The course for the run will start at the MHS athletic field and proceed through nearby Mundelein neighborhoods similar to the Turkey Trot held on Thanksgiving. Social distancing will be required and masks must be worn except while running/walking in the event. Hand sanitizers will also be available. Strides for Peace is a not-for-profit organization that raises funds to help decrease gun violence in Chicago. The BSU event, The Mundelein Race Against Gun Violence, will help raise awareness and funds for more than 50 community organizations working for a more peaceful Chicago where all can thrive, free from the fear of gun violence. The event is also backed by the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) organization launched in 2014 by former president Barack Obama to address persistent opportunity gaps facing young men and women of color and to ensure all youth can reach their full potential. “Thank you all for your continued love and support,” said Trey Baker, president of the MHS BSU. “Let’s make this the best event as possible for our community.” Registration for the event" with same day check in on the morning of the event. In addition, donations will be accepted through Oct. 31 and may be made here
