Kerrith Whyte, formerly of the Chicago Bears who recently signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was at Mundelein High School Tuesday, Nov. 12 to assist with collecting and sorting items for the new Welcome Center that recently opened at the District 120 Office Building. Whyte, along with members of the Helping Heroes of America Club at MHS, collected the items at the high school and moved them to the Welcome Center. There, they sorted the items and stocked the shelves with the newest donations. This was all part of the MHS Booster Club’s hat and gloves drive which was recently begun.

While at MHS, Whyte also toured the facilities at the high school and spent time with some of the MHS athletic teams.

The Welcome Center provides free clothing, food and other items to those who need them. It is open from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. every Wednesday and Friday. The most needed items now, in addition to hats and gloves, are brand new underwear, bras and socks as well as gently used boys (toddler to teen) clothing, children’s coats, snow pants, gym shoes and winter boots.

 “We’re extremely grateful to the Chicago Bears and especially Kerrith Whyte for helping to promote this very important school/community project to help residents of the Mundelein area,” said Tracy Carlson, MHS test coordinator, gymnastics coach and coordinator of the event.

UPDATE:  Shortly after this event, Kerrith Whyte signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
