MHS Choral Music news

Concert April 11

The MHS Honors Master Singers and Honors Concert Choir will perform in a free concert Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m. at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church. The concert will feature several pieces with the combined choirs including Da Pacem by Caldwell & Ivory that will also feature horn player Ryan Burns. This is the culminating event for these two groups who have been working on the concert pieces since December. The department will host one more free concert this year where all the concert and show choirs will perform May 8 at 7 p.m. in the MHS Auditorium.

 

Show Choir Competitions

The MHS Show Choir competition season concluded in March with a number of accolades for the choir members.

Prairie Premiere (Prairie High School, Cedar Rapids IA: January 26:

  • Rachel Larson – Best Soloist
  • Matt Olorvida – Best Instrumentalist

Fort Atkinson (Wisconsin) Showcase: February 9:

  • Sound 4th Runner-Up in Finals
  • Lights Grand Champion of the Single Gender Division
  • SoundFX 2nd Runner-Up of the Single Gender Division

Naperville North Clash of the Sequins: February 18:

  • Sound 3rd Runner-Up in Finals
  • Lights 1st Runner-Up in the Single Gender Division
  • Noise Best Band
  • Matthew Callas Best Male Soloist

Totino-Grace Show Choir Spectacular (Fridley, Minnesota) March 2:

  • Sound 3rd Runner-Up in Finals
  • Lights 1st Runner-Up in the Single Gender Division
  • SoundFX 2nd Runner-Up in the Single Gender Division
  • Noise Best Band in the Single Gender Division
  • Matthew Callas Best Male Soloist in the Single Gender Division
  • Rachel Larson Best Female Soloist in the Open Class Division
