“The Philadelphia Story” was a wildly successful film in 1940. It was also made into a popular movie musical in 1956 (High Society). But this classic comedy began its life on the Broadway stage in 1948, and will be coming to the Mundelein Theatre stage this fall.

Performances will be held on Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 17, 18, and 19 at 7:30 p.m. There is also a performance on Friday, Oct. 18 at 3:45 p.m.

“The Philadelphia Story” deals with the eventful wedding weekend at the estate of a wealthy American family. It has been described as a furiously witty comedy of manners. The play featured the iconic actress, Katherine Hepburn, who also starred in the film version (alongside Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart). The movie featured Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby, and Frank Sinatra.

““The Philadelphia Story” is a classic comedy, much in the style of the 1930’s screwball comedies that were so popular,” said Director Jonathan Meier. “But the language in this play is elevated, relying less on physical comedy and more on wit.”

Senior Mia Joshi, who portrays Tracy Lords, said the character has so much spirit. “She is a fascinating combination of strength and vulnerability, which makes it a wonderful challenge to portray.”

Other seniors in the cast are Aedan Hogan (Mike), Sydney Olorvida (Liz), Alex Benassi (Dexter), Lia Kagan (Sandy), Graham Ney (Seth), Arianna Garcia (Elsie), and Rocci Pellettiere (Mac/Parson). Others in the cast are Xavion Haynes (George), Vesta Albano (May), Kelly McQuillan (Margaret), Eli Nerdin (Uncle Willie), and Jasmine Tigley (Dinah). Arlo Fingerhut and Sylv Pacis are the assistant directors and Makenna Wald is the stage manager.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. The matinee performance on Friday is only $2 for MHS students. Tickets can be purchased online at www.mundeleintheatre.org. Tickets will also be on sale at the door, 30 minutes prior to each performance.
