Mundelein High School’s Helping Heroes of America Club is following up on last year’s successful donation drive with a second one this year. The club will accept donations for active duty troops stationed primarily in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“Last year the community was amazing and donated tons of items which made it possible to pack 33 boxes,” said club advisor, Nicole Malham. “We’re hoping to pack even more this year.” Donations will be accepted through Thursday, April 25.

According to club president, Matthew Pawlowski, “Community members can drop off donations in the school’s main office where there is a large box with ‘Helping Heroes Care Package Project’ on it.”

Items requested by the military include shampoo, razors, conditioner, sunflower seeds, body wash, bug repellent, sun screen, travel size toiletries, playing cards, non-perishable food items, chap stick, microwave popcorn, gum, powdered drink mix, books, canned foods, puzzle books, foot powder, hand sanitizer, magazines, baby wipes, instant coffee, dice games, hand & foot warmers, pens, pillow cases, washcloths, beef jerky, yo-yos, towels, hacky sacks, batteries, shaving cream and more.

The organization conducts other support projects throughout the year including assisting with the annual Veterans Day celebration at MHS.
