The College Board honored Mundelein High School with a Bronze recognition on the 2023 AP School Honor Roll.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access for such achievement to all students. Schools earn this recognition based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit and maximizing college readiness.

The bronze recognition was an outstanding commendation and shows that MHS is committed to access and excellence for all students through its Advanced Placement Program. It means that MHS is preparing students for a future of unlimited possibilities, said Stacey Gorman, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.

“It opens a lot of doors for kids,” Gorman said. “We’ve removed all barriers for students to challenge themselves. They’re stretching themselves.”

MHS earned the Honor Roll achievement by tallying 49 percent of seniors who took at least one AP exam during high school, 43 percent of seniors who scored a three or higher on at least one AP exam and 17 percent of seniors who took five or more AP exams.

While MHS actually reached gold level for the percentage of seniors scoring a three or higher on at least one exam, and platinum level for the percentage of seniors taking five or more AP exams, schools must meet or exceed criteria for a given recognition level on all three metrics to attain that status overall.

College Board’s AP Program enables students to pursue college-level studies - with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both - while still in high school. Taking AP courses demonstrates to college admissions officers that students have sought the most challenging curriculum available and research indicates that students who score a three or high er on an AP exam typically experience greater academic success in college and are more likely to earn a college degree.
