Mundelein High School Senior, Tyler Collins, was recently awarded one of ten $2,000 scholarships from Consumers Cooperative Association [CCA], the sponsor of Consumers Credit Union [CCU, $1.25 Billion, Waukegan]. Recipients are able to use their scholarships at the college or university of their choice.

With an online application option for the first time this year, there was a large increase in the number of applicants this year according to Kathleen Crews, CCA president. CCA received 163 applications from 72 different high schools located in 13 states. Locally, students from Warren, Mundelein, Zion-Benton, Grayslake North and Lakes Community High Schools lead the way.

Collins, who recently was presented with the President’s Volunteer Service Award, is active in many school and community organizations. At MHS he is involved in band, chess team, FBLA, Helping Heroes of America, math team, gymnastics, National Honor Society and the Student Athlete Leadership Team [SALT]. In addition, he is a volunteer with veterans at the James A. Lovell Federal Healthcare Center in North Chicago, he is a coach in the Special Olympics Program and he volunteers at the Gymnastics Spot in Mundelein.

“Seeing these amazing students receive their scholarships is my personal highlight of the evening,” said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU’s CEO. “We are so proud that our sponsor provides their scholarship program and are delighted to be affiliated with them and their investment in these students. On behalf of CCU’s Management and Board of Directors, we extend our best wishes for big success to this year’s scholarship winners.
