Jazz Ensemble to join Jazz Consortium Big Band at Durty Nellies

Mundelein High School’s Jazz Ensemble will join the Jazz Consortium Big Band Sunday, Nov. 10, at Durty Nellies in Palatine (180 N Smith ST; Palatine, IL). Doors will open at 5 p.m. with the MHS performance beginning at 6 p.m. The Jazz Consortium Big Band performance will follow. Admission is $10 cash for adults and $5 for students 17 and under.

The performances are part of the Big Band’s 9th Annual Holiday Food Drive. Audience members are encouraged to bring canned/non-perishable food items for donation to the Palatine Township Food Pantry. Items especially needed are baby wipes, juice boxes, cereal, coffee, diapers, condiments, pasta sauce, personal care & cleaning products, laundry & dish soaps, and paper grocery bags.

The MHS Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Consortium Big Band have been performing together at Durty Nellies for several years. Since its inception in 1975, the Big Band has featured well-known music from such bigs bands as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller along with contemporary big bands like Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson and Gordon Goodwin plus original compositions by band members.

Advanced reservations for the performances are strongly encouraged. Call (847)358-9150 and press 0 when the recording starts. The Durty Nellie’s kitchen will also be open for those wanting to have dinner and music.

Andy Sturgeon and Jerald Shelato direct the instrumental music program at MHS.
