Several local politicians will be on hand as the Mundelein High School AP Comparative Government and Politics classes present the first ever MHS Civics Fair Thursday, Feb. 22. The event will take place in the upstairs District Meeting Room from 10:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Tom Kuhn is the teacher in charge of the Fair.

Students will present, Science Fair style, their proposals to reform our political system based on the founding principles of the nation. Winners at the Fair will advance to state competition to be held at Stevenson High School in April.

Tenth Congressional candidates Jeremy Wynes and Sapan Shah are planning to attend along with members of the office of Carol Sente and representatives from the Bruce Rauner campaign. Holly Kim will also be in attendance.

The Civics Fair is being conducted as part of the Mikva Challenge Project Civics Works. The Mikva Challenge was founded on the premise that youth voice and participation matter and that civic and political life will be stronger when youth participate and help shape their own destinies. Mikva Challenge develops youth to be empowered, informed and active citizens who will promote a just and equitable society, according to their website.

Judges for the Fair are Michele Bonadies, Stacey Darcy and Bill Gorski of the MHS social studies department.
