MHS Distinguished Alumna earns advanced degree, new career move

Dr. King receives her Distinguished Alumni Award from Superintendent Dr. Kevin Myers

MHS Class of 1987 alumna and 2019 MHS Distinguished Alumni honoree Amy Aufmann King has completed an advanced degree and moved on to a new career position. She recently earned a doctorate from the University of Southern California and with that accomplishment, she has moved into a new career path as Executive Director of West Coast University Texas. WCU is a regionally accredited university, founded in 1909, providing bachelor, master and doctoral degrees, largely in healthcare.

“I’m delighted to be finished with my dissertation,” King said. “While we have relocated to Dallas, I would be happy to continue to visit MHS for future alumni events.”

King earned her BS Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University and her MBA from Benedictine University. She has more than 20 years of academic leadership experience, most recently as the President of the DeVry University’s Addison metro, overseeing campus operations, faculty training and admissions management.

Aufman King has also served on committees for Junior Achievement, the Workforce Board and Proprietary Advisory Committee for the Illinois Board of Higher Education. She has served as the Honorary Chair for the Illinois Bolingbrook and Joliet March of Dimes Walk for Babies. In addition, she has served on the Board of Directors for several organizations including the Will County Center for Economic Development, the Romeoville Economic Development Commission and the Bolingbrook Hospital Foundation.

"As an educator, I’m passionate about helping students to reach their dreams.  The research shows how having a support system, including faculty, family, and friends, can make a difference in students’ lives.  I’m grateful for those in my life who have helped support my professional journey," King concluded.
