Mundelein High School welcomed a number of retirees back to MHS on August 22 to spend time together and share experiences. Hosted by Social Studies Teacher Jesse Piland and coordinated by English Teacher Mike Dayton, the event was overwhelmingly supported by the staff.
“This was a chance for those who retired from MHS to share their “stories” with current staff members and to talk about the future of education,” Dayton said.
During the morning event, the retirees attended department meetings with the departments they worked in, toured the facilities including many changes and additions since they left MHS and a breakfast at the District Office.
“It was great to hear about the way things used to be and for us to share what is the newest and best,” said Principal Anthony Kroll.
Approximately 30 retirees took part in the activities, several of whom retired in the early ‘90’s. Others retired as recently as just a few years ago.
“It was nice of MHS to stay in touch with and recognize retirees this way,” said Gerry Daley, retired administrator and current mayor of Hainesville, IL. “Getting together brought back many good memories,” he said.
According to Dayton, MHS plans to repeat this event every four or five years as more staff members join the group of retirees.
