MHS Jazz Ensemble to Perform with Jazz Consortium Big Band 10/14

Mundelein High School’s Jazz Ensemble will perform Sunday, October 14 at 6 p.m. at Durty Nellie’s in Palatine [180 N Smith ST, Palatine, IL 60067]. It will be the first concert of the year for the 21-student big band. They will be followed by the Jazz Consortium Big Band from 6:30 to 9 p.m. A cover fee of $10 for adults and $5 for children will be charged and the Durty Nellie’s kitchen will also be open during the performances for those wanting to experience dinner and music.

The Jazz Ensemble will perform It’s Oh So Nice by Sammy Nestico, Are We There Yet? by Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays arr. Bob Curnow; Laura by Johnny Mercer and David Raskin arr. Lennie Neihaus and Cuban Overture by George Gershwin arr. Chris Sharp. The Jazz Consortium Big Band will follow immediately after the MHS performance.

Since its inception in 1975, the Jazz Consortium Big Band has featured well-known music from such big bands as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller, and contemporary big bands like Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson and Gordon Goodwin, plus original compositions by band members.

Led by Roy Vombrack, this Chicago area big band plays a variety of Jazz, Swing and Jazz – rock music that appeals to all ages. From the classic “In the Mood” to its Jazz-Rock interpretation of “Fanfare for the Common Man,” the Jazz Consortium Big Band covers it all.

Andy Sturgeon and Jerry Shelato direct the instrumental music program at MHS.
