Mundelein High School has been named to the College Board’s 2024 Advanced Placement Program (AP) School Honor Roll, earning a Silver distinction.

The recognition shows improvement at MHS, which earned a Bronze distinction in 2023.

“This award reflects the hard work of our students, the support of their families, and the dedication of our exceptional faculty,” said Stacey Gorman, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

Four levels  of distinction are recognized—Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum—based on specific criteria:

  • MHS earned a Silver recognition in College Culture as 55 percent of the Class of 2024 graduates took at least one AP course and exam during high school, exceeding the 50 percent threshold for Silver.
  • The school earned a Gold recognition in the College Credit category, with 49 percent of the Class of 2024 scoring three or higher on at least one AP exam, surpassing the 35 percent requirement for a Gold.
  • Lastly, MHS received a Platinum for College Optimization with 16 percent of the Class of 2024 completing five or more AP exams, including at least one in 9th or 10th grade, exceeding the 15 percent  benchmark for a Platinum rating.

“By excelling in AP courses, our seniors have not only distinguished themselves academically but have also potentially earned valuable college credits, giving them a head start on their higher education journey,” Gorman said. “This accomplishment speaks volumes about the quality of education at Mundelein High School and the promising futures that lie ahead for our graduates."

Mundelein received a Silver rating because schools must meet or exceed criteria for a given recognition level on all three metrics to attain that status overall.
