Mundelein High School senior Nicholas Selimos has earned the prestigious Chick Evans Scholarship, a full tuition and housing, four-year college scholarship for golf caddies.

Selimos plans to attend the University of Illinois - Chicago in the fall and study mechanical engineering. The scholarship, given by the Evans Scholars Foundation, is awarded based on a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character.

He was nominated for the award by the Ivanhoe Country Club where he achieved the rank of “Honor Caddie” within his first year of caddying. Honor Caddie is the highest caddie rank, signifying outstanding performance and high member rankings, as well as a positive influence and mentorship for other caddies.

Selimos is currently president of the MHS Philosophy Club. He also played baseball and ran track during his high school career.

For more than 90 years, the Western Golf Association has overseen the Evans Scholars Program, which is among the nation’s largest privately funded scholarship programs. It is named in honor of legendary amateur golfer Chick Evans, whose charitable legacy was to help send deserving caddies to college.
