Five Mundelein High School juniors were accepted into the selective Northwestern Medicine GCM Grosvenor Program. The program received 150 applications, but only 40 high school students from Lake were chosen.
Carlos Armenta, Samantha Alvarez, Keshav Chandramouli, Nayary Huizar, Vanessa Marcos will join the program which is designed to give ambitious students an inside look at the vast array of careers in medicine. The students will attend once-a-month sessions led by Northwestern Medicine health professionals at the Lake Forest campus covering topics such as neurosurgery, oncology, life skills, professional development and community service.
Students will meet health care professionals and also have opportunities for community service and leadership experiences. Medical Club sponsor Trevor Hitzler, a biology teacher, encouraged club members to apply.
“The students’ abilities, enthusiasm and demonstrated passion for learning is reflected in the activities and attendance within the club. I’m excited to see how this program will inform their futures and help to expand their futures,” Hitzler said.
