Based on the success of last year’s first El Baile Latin Dance, the MHS Puertas Latin Culture Club will host the second one Feb. 23 from 7 to 10 p.m. in the main gym. Tickets are $5 in the school bookstore and include snacks and a photo booth. The dance will feature various types of Latin music such as Cumbia, Bachata, Banda and others. Students may also purchase tickets on the school’s website.
Students not familiar with Latin dancing or those who want to “brush up” on their skills may attend one or both free Latin dance workshops led by MHS staff member Carsyn Rodriguez on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 12 and 13 in the school cafeteria beginning at 3:30 p.m.
“Students may attend one or both of the workshops but neither is required. It is an option for students to learn or practice basic steps so they will feel more confident dancing at the actual dance,” said Laura Garcia, Puertas Latin Culture Club advisor.
“This dance is open to all students,” Garcia said. “We hope to help bridge any gaps between our Latino and non-Latino students and this is a great event that all students can get involved with,” she concluded.
