MHS to Host free Financial Aid Workshop October 17, 5-8p.m.

 
College Week Financial Aid Workshop 10/17

A free workshop to help students and/or parents complete financial aid forms and apply for many types of financial aid will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 17 at Mundelein High School. The workshop, to be held in the new building addition,  Rooms C103 and C104, will have assistance available in both English and Spanish. The event is part of a week-long tradition of “College Week” at MHS coordinated by College Counselor Andrea Rusk.

Attendees will get help in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid [FAFSA] which is also available at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The form is required to be considered for state and federal financial aid programs, along with being required by some universities to provide institutional aid.

Those attending the workshop should bring student and parent 2017 federal tax returns, W-2 forms and other records of income, social security number, Alien registration number if you [student] are not a US citizen, recent bank statements and records of investments [if applicable] and records of untaxed income [if applicable]. Also needed is information about assets such as savings, certificates of deposit, stock options, bonds and investment real estate, business and farm.

Also available to participants will be the Illinois Student Assistance Commission [ISAC] representative, local financial aid experts and ISAC-trained volunteers to answer questions. Members of the MHS Guidance Department will also be available.

Other activities during College Week include:  Essay Assistance Day Oct. 15 where students may have help with application essays during lunch periods; Financial Aid Workshop and Financial Aid Information to be presented Oct. 16 during lunch periods in the College and Career Resource Center; a College Panel on Oct. 17 during second and third periods where college representatives will speak with students about college experiences; Free Application Day Oct. 18 when 30 colleges will be available for all seniors during lunch periods for free application completion, and Oct. 19 when counselors and ISAC representatives will assist students in completing applications during the lunch periods.
