Mundelein High School had eight top-ten finishers and one first-place national qualifier among various categories during the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Annual State Leadership Conference in Springfield this month.

The 18 competitors from MHS performed well against competition with 73 other chapters from around the state. Students were allowed to compete in more than 75 events: These included objective tests in business topics; role-play events with case studies; computer-skills testing events; interview events; presentation events and more.

The top-10 finishers included: senior Animesh Bijawat, first place in Personal Finance (national qualifier); senior Xander Ede, fifth place in Website Design; freshman Michael Townsend, fifth place in Client Service; senior Victoria Zherebna, fifth place in Business Communication; senior Devin Boongaling, seventh place in UX Design; senior Azael Sanchez, seventh place in Economics; sophomore Bruce Searle, seventh place in Agribusiness; and senior William Fisher, tenth place in Public Speaking.

Other MHS students competing included senior Adrian Rosales, sophomores Marsha De Quina Tagala, Zachary Glazer, and Gabriella Goodson, and freshmen Lisa Choi, Alan Fisher, Aidan Hanrahan, Nihal Joshy, Anthony Vynnyk and Olivia Wallace.

MHS Faculty sponsors Chris Hoster and Paul Franzen also helped organize, supervise and run the media production team for the livestreamed general sessions.

In addition to running the in person and online Mustang Nation Spirit Store, Mundelein High School students prepare for careers in business through academic competitions, leadership and service development, and educational programs.

FBLA is the largest student business career and technical organization in the world. The National Leadership Conference will be held in Orlando, FL from June 28 to July 2.
