The Mundelein Theatre Group Interpretation (GI) team will present a preview of their 2019 competition piece, I Kill Giants, on Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mundelein High School Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the door 30 minutes prior to each performance. Additional information can be found at www.mundeleintheatre.org.

Group Interpretation is a 30 minute, student-led performance of any literary work. The focal point of the performance is "out" to the audience with limited on-stage focus. The performance is minimal in nature, meaning that performers wear a uniform dress (not costumes) and build a minimalistic set. Sound effects are permitted but no lighting, specific costuming, properties or theater makeup can be used. It is an IHSA-sanctioned event where schools compete against other schools with a chance to earn the opportunity to compete at a State Final tournament.
I Kill Giants is a graphic novel by Joe Kelly and Ken Niimura, which was also made into a motion picture in 2017.  It is the story of Barbara Thorson, a girl battling monsters, both real and imagined, and kicking butt and taking names as she faces her greatest fear. The story has been described as a bittersweet, coming-of-age story. The GI team is made up of Sydney Litka, Mary McMurray, Natalie Williams, Amari Liebe, Miriam Mitry, Katie Staroszczyk, Brooke Mellen, Eli Walter, Lance Evans, Matthew Callas, Mirabella Logan and Rosy Castro. Mark Landuyt directs and Sara Gunther is the associate director. Student assistant directors are Colin Nacion and Halli Carpender.
