MHS to induct seven graduates as Distinguished Alumni

Mundelein High School representatives have chosen seven MHS graduates to honor as Distinguished Alumni for 2020. This will be the fourth year that MHS will recognize alumni for their personal accomplishments and the many ways they give back to their communities. Traditionally, the event to honor the alumni has been on Homecoming Weekend. This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the date for the ceremony is yet to be confirmed. It will depend on how things progress in the coming months.

Sophomore named semi-finalist in essay contest; wrote about stepfather

Mundelein High School sophomore, Dempsey Young, has been selected as a semifinalist in a Fatherhood Essay Contest sponsored by the Illinois Fatherhood Initiative (IFI). One hundred and thirty semifinalists were chosen from the more than 2,700 received. Her essay was in the top five percent of entries and she is now in the running to be a finalist. FBLA earns awards at Virtual State Conference

Mundelein High School’s chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) competed at the 2020 Illinois State Conference. The competition was modified this year so that all competitors could virtually compete, as well as attend the opening and closing sessions. The conference was presided over by senior Sofia Feijoo as State Secretary. Yearbook, newspaper staffs score big in state competition

Mundelein High School’s student publications earned high marks in the Illinois Journalism Education Association’s (IJEA) yearbook and newspaper competitions. The Mustang, the student-produced school newspaper, earned 26 awards in 31 categories while the Obelisk, the school’s yearbook, received six awards out of eight categories in the yearbook contest. “The students on both publication staffs put in so much time, effort and passion into their products,” said Michelle Didzbalis, advisor for both

Sophomore earns place at U of I summer camp

MHS Sophomore Emily Navarette has earned a place at the Grainger Virtual Summer Camp scheduled to take place at the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the camp will take place remotely, rather than in person. Funds to support Patel’s participation were provided by the MHS Foundation’s STEM-X Scholarship and also by Lawrence Maligaya, a 2005 graduate from MHS. Maligaya has provided financial support to the Foundation for students to attend
