MHS Wrestling Coach Craig Stocker was presented with the District 120 Award of Excellence in Education at the school’s Institute Day on Aug. 12.

The award reflects the Board’s dedication to supporting a diverse community that fosters continuous growth in both staff and students. It also represents the effort behind providing equity, growth and collaboration.

The presentation was made during an assembly of the school staff on their first day back for the 2024-25 school year.

“Coach Stocker has been an invaluable asset to our community and our high school, embodying the very essence of excellence in coaching and mentorship,” School Board President Peter Rastrelli told the staff.

Coach Stocker has made the sport of wrestling accessible to all, Rastrelli said. He demonstrated exceptional leadership in ushering in the girls’ wrestling program at MHS. Rastrelli explained how Stocker’s coaching style cultivated a sense of family where members feel supported, valued and encouraged to excel.

“This sense of unity and togetherness and belonging is a direct reflection of our Mundelein community and our high school’s values,” Rastrelli said. “His unwavering commitment to this athletes’ growth and development goes beyond the mat, shaping them into confident, resilient individuals who will undoubtedly make positive contributions to our community and beyond.”

It is the second year the award has been presented. In 2023, the Board honored MHS Theatre Director Jonathan Meier with the award.
