Mundelein High School’s three show choirs earned awards at competitions held in LaCrosse, Wisconsin and in Crete-Monee.
SoundFX, the all-male show choir, was named Grand Champion Jan. 27 at LaCrosse in the Single Gender Division while the all-female group, Lights, was first runner-up. Senior Dominic Cappuccilli was named best male soloist in a show. Sound, the mixed show choir, won the Best Costumes award. Both SoundFX and Sound made it into the finals competition where SoundFX took fifth runner-up and Sound was named third runner-up.

“It’s a big deal to have a single gender group make finals against ‘varsity’ level groups from surrounding states,” said Cory Thompson who directs the show choirs along with Stevee Bellas.

The 16 groups at the competition were from Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.
At the Crete-Monee Spectacular on Feb. 3 SoundFX was named Grand Champion in the Single Gender Division and Best Choreography; Lights was named second runner up in the Single Gender Division.

“Sound made finals and was third runner-up overall against some very tough competition,” Thompson said.
