Student artists earn more than a million dollars in college scholarships

Student artists receive over a million dollars in college scholarships

 

The Illinois High School Art Exhibition (IHSAE) will host a virtual art exhibition Wednesday, April 7 through Sunday, April 11, where student artists may showcase their work and vie for top recognition awards of $60,000,000.

Twelve Mundelein High School students have already earned more than $1,406,000 in scholarship money. In addition, Mundelein High School has been recognized for being in the Top 20 high schools who were awarded more than a million dollars in collective student scholarships.

The MHS scholarship winners include Nadia Burek, Hannah Cho, Nick Gomez, Jodi Lawson, Brianna Martin, Abril Mata, Brenda Olayo, Karly Richlinski, Jeannette Rodriguez, Max Thompson, and Bridget Wunderlich. Additional recognition went to Burek for being in the top 25 students who received the most scholarships and to Shaltiel Jackson, a junior, on being awarded an Early College Scholarship.

The Mundelein High School Art Department staff includes David Mork, Jonathan Pruc and Peter Schrenk. Larry Calhoun serves as Fine and Applied Arts department chair; Pruc is also the ArtConnectED Director of Northern Exhibitions.

 

Virtual Event opens Wednesday, April 7

 

The virtual event and digital exhibition will kick off on Wednesday, April 7 with Spring Mini Portfolio Week consisting of various college/university presentations, artist workshops and more continuing through Sunday. The virtual event will conclude on April 11 at 4 p.m. following the Main Ceremony Event where all winning student artists will be recognized for their accomplishments. Links for this event, which will be experienced through the Socio Event App, can be provided on request. No downloads are required.

 

IHSAE events

The IHSAE features several unique programs for high school art students and K-12 art educators throughout the year. The first of many events is the IHSAE Northern Regional Exhibition: a “Best of the Best” show featuring more than 800 works of art in eight distinct categories from Illinois suburban, public and private high schools, plus a Vendor & Career Expo. The virtual experience will also include the  Vendor & Career Expo and College Recruitment Fair. The Senior Scholarship Exhibition will exhibit some 350 senior artworks and recognize the scholarship recipients. A Recruitment Fair, The Early College Program Exhibition will showcase 100 underclassmen awarded life-changing scholarships to summer college experiences.

Art ConnectED is powered by teacher volunteers and has grown out of the passion they bring to making a difference for students. It is a not-for-profit with a mission to enhance the creative educational landscape, giving student and teacher artists agency to succeed by connecting them to a variety of exhibitions, opportunities and programs while advocating for and reinforcing the power of art in their lives.
