Eleven Mundelein High School students were recognized with Mustang Pride awards during a breakfast ceremony Oct. 2.

Students may be nominated by staff members for a number of reasons, both academic and social. Some of those reasons can include acts of kindness, raising a grade or grade point average significantly, tutoring other students, assisting staff members in class and many others.

This month’s honorees and their nominating staff members include:

Damia Ali, nominated by Cynthia Henrichs and Patrick Gaughan, social studies teachers and Student Leadership advisors;

Tony Cuevas, nominated by English teacher, Corey Knigge;

Nickie Figueroa and Alejandra Martinez, nominated by Krysta Penuel and Maureen Baker, psychologist and special education teacher, respectively;

Brandom Ibarra, (sic) nominated by Michele Bonadies, social studies teacher;

Michael Kukla and JP LaCroix, nominated by Andy Sturgeon, band director;

Luca Lopez, nominated by Kevin Quinn, director of facilities and grounds;

Lizbet Maldonado Maya, nominated by Blair Winter, Spanish instructor, and Autumn Graef, ESL instructor;

Taylor Ocso, nominated by English teacher, Ryan Buck;

Violet Wark, nominated by Susan Feltz, adult education

“Thank you to the staff who nominated our students and spoke about all the qualities they possess that make them more than worthy of this recognition,” said Maghan Bargar, dean of students and coordinator of the Mustang Pride Program along with Anthony Kroll, principal. “Also, a big shout-out to the students who were honored,” she concluded.
